I can really relate to her way of thinking because shes about our age. Her name is Annemarie. She likes to run and read fairytales. she lost her sister who was going to be married in a week before she died. this part made me really sad for Annemarie but it also made me want to read more. I like Lois Lowrys style of writing. it made me feel connected to the character. its not as bad of a book as i thought it would be!
I also agree that the book is not as bad as I thought.But I think it was sad when Kristi wanted a big yellow cupcake with pink frosting.What I also thought was sad is when Annemarie's sister died a few weeks before her own wedding and they still had a trunk full of her stuff.Annemarie sometimes opened the trunk but when her parents were not home because it made them sad to think about her.
Ok,So I guess this book is not so bad.I read all of the 38 pages and it ended at a sad part that made me want to read more.
This book is alot like the book "The Boy In The Striped Pajamas".There are 2 small kids that are friends and trie to help one another but one of the kids is German and the other is Jewish.
i really like this book. it was really sad where i had to stop(pg.38}). Ellen was staying with Annemarie because she needs to hide from the nazis. shes been separated with her parents. if i was ever separated with my parents i would be devistated!!!!!!! i would probably cry myself to slepp for the next YEAR! this part made me sad!

Smang certainly looked fast asleep,when Bilbo peeped once more from the entrance.He was just about to step out on the floor when he caught a sudden thin and piercing ray of red from under the drooping lid of Smang's left eye.He was only pretending to sleep! He was watching the tunnel entrance...

page 41 "I was with your mother in the living room when my parents came home in the middle of the night and told me lise had died" that was my HOT SPOT SHANNA OUT!!!
Pg. 67 "She looked at the tiny kitten who was shaking his head,irritated at his wet whiskers"
My Thinking: I think Kristi was really young so she didn't know that cats don't like watere. Most cats sctrach their owners when they are irritated, but the god of thunder is still small and young. I think that before you learn you have to make mistakes. I think that before you are old and wise you have to be young and stupid. T feel Kristi has to make mistakes and then learn from them. I wonder if Kristi has learned her lesson.
hot spot: When mama said theres cream and butter after she placed the oatmeal. My thinking: I wonder how henrik got cream and butter.If there was cream doesn't need processing?Did henrik save the butter from the nazis?Did he hid the butter?

i was so freaked when they(nazis) stoped annemarie to check through her basket it was a tense moment fo me and i was nervous for her because she had to act like a little girl when she was a mature girl who loves her mom & dad

My Thinking:
I think it is silly to call someone Little Red Riding-Hood just because she wears a red hoody.I also think the suthor is trying to make the story into something like Little Red Riding-Hood.The only thing that it is a jewish theme and instead of a wolf its the Nazis.It was funny how Lois Lowry tried to make the story become Little Red Riding-Hood.I wonder if Lois Lowry would make more stories that take on a fairy tale?
well im glad im finished!!! this wasnt a very exiting read for me. i dont like the way lois lowry describes things in this book. i am disapointed with the ending aswell! it was a hankerchief!!!! wth?! well im glad that its finaly over and im glad that the stupid book club is over too!!!!!!!
i cant belive that peter died such a harsh death too he didnt even get buried next to his futre wife i mean thats a little harsh to be buried with a number.....i guess thats why they call it number the stars
im still wondering about what the big daewl of the hankie was it somthing like the hankie was a prized possesion or somthing they like either way why was it so important to get the hankie to uncle henrick????
it must have been really hard for Annmarrie to listen to her parents talk about Lise and Peter's death cause I know what it feels like and it's really hard to listen to that suff
i love kirsti shes my fav charecter because she wasent as cocious as the others and everyone expets her to get in trouble then she surprises everybody including me
